Coming of Age
The phrase “Coming of Age” means that we are growing up, and taking steps through life. Some steps are when you make it through school, become a teenager, getting your license, moving out, and etc. The goals you complete in your life are part of your “Coming of Age.”
Like as a baby, I know you probably don’t remember it, but its the first and biggest step in your “Coming of Age”, You were born, if that never happened to you, you wouldn’t be here. Then another big step is your fist day of school, it was more than likely scary. But without going to school, the rest of your life would be boring and you wouldn’t get far. Then when your a teenager you think your “Cool” and better than everyone else. You might do a lot of stupid things as a teenager, but we learn from our mistakes. The at the age of 16 you can get a drivers license, that is a huge thing at that age. Then after that, after all the school years, you can graduate. When you graduate, you get you high school diploma, with that you can get some jobs that you couldn’t get before. Then you can either get a job, go to collage (If you qualify), or both. By then you probably have moved out, and need a job for money. If you get to collage, that can be a big thing too. Collage degrees can open up so many new jobs, for more money. After all that you might meet someone and start a family. Your first child is something you would never forget, (If you forget about it... your stupid). Then when you get old and retire, and become a grand parent. You will see “Coming of Age” in your grandchildren.

Dynamic Character
The dynamic character I choose for blog post two, is Brian Robeson from the story “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. A dynamic character is someone that changes over time, (Appearance, attitude, etc). Brian is going through some hard times, his parents are getting a divorce and he has to go to his dads for a while. He likes his dad but not his mom as much. His mom was cheating on his dad with another man, and Brian found out. It was a secret that was very hard for Brian to keep.
On his way to his dads, the pilot of the plane Brian is riding on has a heart attack and dies. He tries to use a radio to signal for help, no answer. He waits an hour, still no answer. Then he realizes he must take control of the plane. Well, Brian crashes the plane, and is now stuck in the wilderness. He crashed the plane in to an L shaped lake. And all he knows about his destination is, wilderness in Canada. Brian must survive, because I am sure he does not want to die, and not see anyone again. Brian has turned into a boy thats angry at his mom, to a survivalist. Brian also builds a home out of dirt, so now he is a builder... in a way. He has to ignore his problem with “home life”, and focus on staying alive until he is rescued, or there will be no “home life”. Its him verses Nature, PvN, all he has is a hatchet and a sinking plane. But think if he survives, he could tell a pretty awesome story when he gets back. His motivation to survive is very simple, he has a family, even though hes mad at his mom, doesn't mean he doesn't love her. Also I don't think dying would be very fun.

Conflict
In the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, Brian is the main character with the main problem. One little problem is his mom, he is very mad at his mom. He caught his mom cheating with another man. But that doesn’t matter now, because he is in a plane crash... alone... in the wilderness... with nothing but a hatchet. He has to survive, and thats not going to be easy. When Brians pilot dies, he is faced with many conflicts. He has to deal with a dead pilot, and what he is going to do with the plane. He tries to fly it, but soon realizes its going to run out of fuel. So now he is faced with the fact that he is going to have to crash it. But before he can crash the plane, he needs to find a good spot to crash that is not going to have such a big impact when he crashes.
Then if does crash, and doesn’t die. He will need stay alive on the land. First he will need shelter. Which he soon builds out of dirt. And who knows how long that will last. After the shelter is made, he will need fire. Making a fire can be really easy if you do it right. But why does someone need a fire... well, very simple. Light, Heat, Food cooking source, to scare animals away, and to clean water. Then most importantly you need some food and water. Without food and water you will die, yes you WILL DIE. They are the two most important things. Without food you will starve, and loose all your energy... and weight, and without water you will dehydrate and die. Its like going from a grape to a raisin, that simple. So as you can see. Brian has many problems/conflicts to deal with.

Climax of Hatchet
The Climax in the story Hatchet by Gary Paulson, is when Brian finds Berries, Raspberries. Well, not just the berries, but all the events that Brian is in that include finding food. It is a huge difference from when he crashed. When he crashed he was... well kinda really stupid. He didn’t know how to do anything. And finding food was a big achievement. Because without food he would die. Before he found raspberries, he found some type of other berry. He named it a Gut Cherry. The made him sick, but food is food. At first he squeezed them for the juices, then later he just ate them. He ate raspberries whole, it was only the gut cherries that he made juice out of. Don’t eat gut Cherries! Then he found turtle eggs... The eggs were probably the worst things he every ate. The were hard to swallow, and tasted terrible. They felt like sand when he swallowed the eggs. The eggs became a usual thing to eat. Brian learned to save them for certain times, and ate them like a meal. Three eggs a day.
Later on, Brian finally builds a fish spear because he wanted more food, and less berries. Nobody can survive on berries. And he wanted meat. Well, the fish spear did not work. And he spent a long time thinking on how to make it work. He tried lots of different throwing ways, but none of them worked. Then he came up with the idea of a “Bow and Arrow” type system. And he waited at the top of the L shaped lake and waited for fish. Finally he saw some fish and used his Bow and Spear thing to catch them. Now he has fish for food.
